What Is A Dental Inlay?
Inlays are designed to repair the center of a tooth. We find that our patients require an inlay rather than a filling if their cavity is fairly large. Dr. Bhupatiraju will create a single, solid piece that is to fit the shape and size of the cavity. Once in place, the inlay is cemented in.
Inlays are a long term fix for a tooth that is giving you issues. We want to be sure you get the proper treatment and will make the process as simple as possible.
What Is A Dental Onlay?
An onlay is not quite a crown and different than an inlay. Onlays are made when a repair is necessary to cover the cusp of the tooth in a single piece. The tooth is filled with a composite resin material that makes the necessary repair.
What Are These Treatments Used For?
The purpose of inlays and onlays treatment wise is to replace damaged tooth material. Patients will see that both treatments are great for making their tooth stronger. Plus, the tooth will have a greater functionality.

What’s The Difference Between The Two?
Dental inlays fill in the spaces between the cusps at the center of the tooth.
However, the onlay is different because it can cover the entire biting surface of the tooth. They can cover one or more cusps, in other words. Occasionally, onlays are called “partial crowns” because they cover so much surface area of the tooth.
